You enter the Stiltz as if through a secret door to a well-guarded kingdom of sea, wind and surrounding dunes, and yet it is just a few minutes’ walk to the centre of town. Built high up on stilts on the edge of the dry Swakop River’s bed, the wooden, thatched chalets are linked together by walkways.....
.... If possible, ask for a chalet facing the sea. The architect, Danie Holloway - who is clearly partial to elevated structures having built The Raft at Walvis Bay, The Tug at Swakopmund and Erongo Wilderness Lodge - has created something magical here. At night, you are lulled to sleep by the sound of the waves and in the morning you wake to contemplate the wild tamarisk bushes as pink flamingos fly overhead. All the chalets are big and bright and are colourfully and stylishly decorated. Wood, sometimes collected from the riverbed, has been used throughout, from the light, twisted wood of the sofas to the large double bed. The bathrooms are made from rosewood, glass, stainless steel and coloured ceramic tiles and you have a wonderful shower with a large showerhead. Breakfasts, served in the honeycomb, polygonal structure of wood and glass, are superb. The new huge luxury Villa is extremely atttractive with an incredible view onto the sea.
