Ulva's Guided Walks
Stewart Island
Nature & wildlife
No one is more suited to the task of guiding people around the predator-free, open bird sanctuary of Ulva Island than Ulva Goodwillie herself. Not only does she bear its name but she’s also a direct descendent of the first peoples to inhabit Rakiura (Stewart Island). She is passionate about the place and soon you will be too. Take a leisurely ramble under the luxuriant green mantle of podocarp forest whilst she introduces you to the history, scenery and spectacular birdlife and fauna that the island has to offer. On a recent guided tour with Ulva, NZ prime minister Helen Clark described the experience as ‘eco-tourism at its very best’.
- Prices: $85 pp for a half-day guided walk (inclusive of 7-min water taxi to and from the island and Dept. of Cons concession fees).
