After 20+ years in the airline industry, Gerald and JD have visited most corners of the globe. Finally they have hung up their wings and decided that Wilderness is the pick of the bunch. And who can blame them - overlooking the lagoon, the glass-encased sitting room is crammed with African artefacts that have been begged, borrowed or bought: Ndebele pipes and beads, bartered-for carvings and stones from the Cradle of Mankind. An old billiard table is hiding there too, somewhere under a pile of maps. The large bedrooms have similar horn-and-hide hues, all the luxurious trappings you could wish for, and room for Indonesian chairs and chests, chocolate leather sofas, corner baths and dark canopied beds with reading lights. Your hosts are discreet and attentive and after serving up a faultless (and greaseless) breakfast (you might even catch a glimpse of the visiting Knysna Loerie lured in by his daily apple), they will give you a map and bountiful beach-bag and send you on your way to explore your surrounds. Birdlife is rampant in the area and walks in the surrounding forests are a must. It is only a 15-minute stroll along lagoon-side boardwalks to the beach, village and some good restaurants.
