Annelie has been charming Greenwood Guide travellers since the very first edition and should be in the running for some sort of award for B&B brilliance. Relaxed, simple and beautiful seems to be the rule here. Her daughter is an artist and their talents combine to make the house a peaceful and contemporary temple to uncluttered Cape Cod-style living. Neutral furnishings and white cottons are frisked up with floral bolsters and country checks. Sunny window-seats amid the white-washed walls and light-grey, vintage-pine floorboards make perfect reading spots. Annelie is a prolific gardener and you can walk (perhaps with her dogs) from the tropical greenery of Kaapse Draai, with its mountain stream, monster gunnera manicata leaves, huge ferns and palms, into lovely Bel-Ombre meadow and the forest next door. From there it is a three-hour walk to the Table Mountain cable station. Porcupines come into the garden at night from the mountain (they love arum lilies apparently) and there are many birds too, including the palindromic hadedah. Delicious breakfasts are taken outside in the sunshine whenever possible. All I can say is – go and stay. Wine estates and Constantia shopping village nearby.
