Fleeing the scorching sun I arrived and was met in fine style and cordially welcomed to the cool relief of my suite. Sweeping open the broad glass doors I discovered my own private infinity plunge pool overlooking a small lake, giving the illusion of basking with the hippos as they grunted and shuffled below. I did not dally, but poured a glass of the crisp white wine chilling in the fridge and sunk on in. What a treat! Each trimly-thatched rondavel suite here is exquisite, mixing African tones with European sophistication. Neat shutters at one end partition off vast baths and showers from equally enormous beds. And if that isn't enough, there’s a wellness suite offering luxurious Africology treatments. Every experience at Kichaka left me feeling utterly charmed and entirely spoiled. I was enchanted by our evening game drive (this is a 'big five' reserve in its natural habitat) and captivated by our guide’s intricate knowledge of the bush and expert tracking skills as we eagerly traced the spoor (tracks) of lion across the veld. That evening my ebullient host Keith joined me for a dinner that was nothing short of exceptional. Kichaka is about very fine living in an exciting bush setting, where service with a smile is not a dictum but an absolute reality. And the energy here is infectious. A few days and you'll be so contented, so elated and so in love with it all that you’ll find it nearly impossible to leave. I certainly did. Children 8+ are welcome.
