Not content with just one luxury guest-house in Gansbaai, Ardi now has two and I don't envy you the task of choosing between them! Sea Star Cliff showcases Ardi's characteristic modern style to a tee, with all rooms featuring the gadgets, designer features and meticulous attention to detail we've now come to expect from our German, private detective friend: Nespresso machines, Jacuzzis, state-of-the-art sound systems, glistening, white snake-skin-effect bathroom tiles... and so it goes on. But my favourite touch by far was the surprise twinkling 'night sky' installation above my bed! Unfortunately for Ardi, all the gizmos in the world can't compete with the beauty of nature right on the doorstep. So, rather than compete, he has gone one better and put nothing but a wall of glass (floor-to-ceiling, one-way windows, wrap-around glass balconies, even the transparent Phillipe Stark chairs in the breakfast room), between you and the whales playing in the bay. Every room benefits from an uninterrupted view of the sea and the neighbouring Walker Bay Conservancy. Ardi was keen to point out two whales that were lazily swimming off towards the horizon. I was impressed, but Ardi was disappointed: “Oh, but they're very far away... yesterday there was a baby right here in front of us”. Expectations are justifiably high at Sea Star Cliff!
