“You won't find us if you Google us”, said Linda. I liked it already! Following her simple instructions, however, was easy. Linda and husband Tony's beautiful home is just a short drive from Stellenbosch in the appropriately-named 'Secret Devon Valley', home to some much coveted wine farms and restaurants. I couldn't hide my enthusiasm as Linda welcomed me inside and out to the verandah where Tony was waiting with tea and cake. Already on my way to being extremely impressed, the majestic view of valley and mountains completed the job. Linda built the house herself, to her own tremendously high standards, so every detail is perfect. My absolute favourite feature (apart from that view) was her wonderfully warm and inviting kitchen. When I joked that it would be an ideal place to film a cookery show, Linda smiled ruefully and told me that that was exactly what she had designed it for! Outside in the beautiful gardens there’s an envy-inducing herb and vegetable garden, which perfectly complements Linda's fresh, local and seasonal dishes, and provides ingredients for her luxurious breakfast hampers. (There’s also an enormous swimming pool, just so you know.) After a delicious dinner and many laughs (Tony has a wicked sense of humour), I couldn't resist a plunge in my stunning copper bath, before melting into fluffy pillows on my four-poster. The next day, armed with Linda's personal recommendations for lunch, I set off to explore the winelands of their back yard. If you’re looking to find fault you might more profitably look elsewhere.
