I had such a lovely stay at Rexford Manor, more of a miniature boutique hotel than a B&B. Five large, opulent rooms are wistfully decorated in a luxurious 'Baroque' style; enormous comfy beds with marshmallow pillows, fluffy duvets and mattresses that feel as though you're sleeping on a cloud. Plush cushions, ornate furnishings, chandeliers and huge framed paintings are typical of the gorgeously glamorous Ansie. The 'honeymoon suite' is a heavenly 'Tuscan' delight, with a romantic open-plan bathroom, free-standing claw-foot bath and king-size, four-poster bed. Breakfast was a grand a la carte affair, seated at high-backed, monogrammed chairs, looking out across the crystal clear pool towards the Knysna Lagoon. Owners Tony and Ansie live just next door, but after losing the 'best manager they would ever find' to the promise of life at sea on board a cruise ship, Tony decided that the only way forward was to run the guest house himself and he has never looked back. After an easy exchange of emails with Tony, the 'Rexford' hospitality was even more endearing than I had hoped. In the evening I joined this big-hearted couple for dinner at their favourite pop-up restaurant, and we shared stories of romance, heartache and the funny way that the universe works. Tony and Ansie are completely besotted with life, Knysna and each other and, by the time you leave, you will be too.
