Family-friendly, affordable and packed full of the kind of outdoor, organic, nature-filled activities the Garden Route is renowned for, Homtini sits on a 90-hectare working farm among indigenous forests and overlooking the Homtini Pass (one of the Garden Route's famous '7 Passes'). Choose between wooden forest cabins with balconies resting amongst the trees or go the glamping route in a safari tent tucked into the fynbos. It was a bit of a chilly visit for me, but that didn't put me off. After working up a glow in the sauna near the pool, I took a quick drive down to the Knysna Friday Night Market where I enjoyed some warming curry from the Kilzers Kitchen crew and tapped my toes to some live music by firelight. When I returned to my cosy forest cabin, I lit the fire and snuggled up under a blanket with a book, watching a spectacular lightning display illuminate the Outeniqua Mountains in the distance, proving that the Garden Route is not only a destination for summer. In the morning the sun appeared, as did my delicious local produce breakfast hamper which came with a tap on my door, right on time. Wonderfully helpful staff are on hand to point you in the right direction for activities, food, etc. There is a great little mini-market just down the road which sells lot of local produce for suppers and I can heartily recommend Tottie's Farm Kitchen just nearby for lunch!
