The smell of baking sourdough wafted temptingly towards me as I crunched up the peach-pip path to Hebron’s farm stall and restaurant. Steve bakes, grills, boils (even grows) his food from scratch and the results are worth breaking your journey for: I recommend the salad of rocket, artichokes, smashed broad beans and pecorino. Load yourself up with preserved lemons and green fig jam before spiralling down the Piekenierskloof pass into Citrusdal.
