Alan Weyer, Spirits of the Past Historical Tours

History tours

If you think you knew little of South Africa before coming here, just think about the droves of Europeans who set sail for these lands in the 1880's. The colonisation period is a facinating story of adventure and hardship, of determination and gritty humour and it's one Alan Weyer tells captivatingly. He's a knowledgeable historian and a great raconteur.

Beachcomber Horse Trails

Horse riding

Beachcomber Horse Trails

Experience the exhilarating freedom of galloping through the surf on deserted beaches, or if you are a novice walk sedately on fit, safe, well-trained horses. When it comes to equestrian adventure Jono is your man. He also organises game reserve rides (no lions here, in case this was a worry!) and, if you are a competent rider, I highly recommend the two- or four-night horse-safari.

  • Prices: R200 for one and a half hours' ride. Other longer options such as 3hr ride incl. lunch available. Game reserve rides dependent on reserve.

Karoo Connections Tours and Transfers

The Karoo is a South African must-see, but where do you start? David and his team at Karoo Connections know this vast expanse like no other. Take a historical tour through the architectural gem of Graaff-Reinet, visit Nieu-Bethesda or the fantasy world of the famous Owl House; do a Township Walkabout and learn about Xhosa culture; take a game drive in the Camdeboo or Mountain Zebra National Park; or my personal favourite, the Valley of Desolation Sundowner tour. A special place needs special people to show you around.

  • Prices: From R200 - R550 depending on the tour.

About Eastern Cape

The Eastern Cape, a huge expanse of land with 800km of coastline, is home to much of this country's history, both ancient and modern. Its earliest inhabitants left their mark in rock art sites across the area while European settlers of the 1700s stamped their own signature in the forts and garrisons from which they attacked resident Xhosa tribes.
