Simonskloof Mountain Retreat and Gecko Trail

If you've been a little over-indulgent in the Winelands, this is the place to work it off. Plenty of exercise in stunning rocky Karoo surroundings. Jurgen offers hiking trails (30mins - 3hrs), biking trails (5 - 40km), kloofing, abseiling and geo-caching (a modern treasure hunt using a GPS receiver to locate hidden caches in the bush).

The Gecko Trail
A relatively strenuous 21km hike that connects the vine-covered plains of the Nuy Vallei near Worcester, via the spectacular Nuy River Gorge, to the fruit-growing Koo Valley west of Montagu. It takes 6 - 9hrs and there's accommodation at both ends. Get R25 permits and maps from the farm.
Prices: Abseiling R95 per session, mountain biking R25 for map and day permit, kloofing R850 for 2 nights, R980 for 3 nights fully catered and guided.
