Seaview boutique hotel
If you’ve been fortunate enough to have lived the many lives that owners Beach and Jennifer have lived, the desire for minimalism is replaced with desire for a place that feels like home and that’s exactly what you can expect from Boutique@10. Forget swanky concrete-and-glass monolithic office-block houses and think Mediterranean villa/family home. You will walk into their lives and be welcomed by a 70s music vibe.
I was greeted by the affable (and very good-looking) Smiley , manager, co chef and housekeeper who delighted me with her big smile, can-do attitude and the smell of freshly made breakfast aromas winging around the central open plan kitchen and lounge area when I walked in. Breakfast is served in the open lounge and on the deck where you can get lost in the best ocean and landscape views that Camps Bay can offer.
The solid Oregon Pine front door gave way to a light-filled atrium lined with photos of Jennifer and Beach in various fantastic locations and wonderfully inspiring abstract paintings by Jennifer which add colours & a spectrum of brilliant designs. ( if one catches your imagination ask Jennifer…they’re all for sale ). Downstairs led to the communal area where a beautiful wooden surfboard was hanging from the ceiling and a great selection of classic 70s music playing from the upmarket hi-fi. I took a seat on the cow-hide upholstered Art Deco easy boys and soaked up the atmosphere and view.
Boutique@10 only has four double rooms, all of which are ocean facing. The top floor rooms, called the Ocean and LionsHead Suites, have very ample bathrooms, beds in the centre of the room which have ocean views through a Juliet balcony and then open up onto a shared (but divided) large decked balcony with sun loungers. Downstairs there’s the Beach Room, which has a small shower room but a private front door and private entrance as well as an enormous and shady deck with a beach and ocean view. On the other side of the communal space is the Deck Suite which has a larger shower room and a shared section of the enormous public deck and pool.
The enormous stone and wooden public sun deck which also accommodates a 5m long swimming pool has ample shade and sun loungers for the all guests. There’s also secure parking for all four rooms too (up to medium sized cars only – larger vehicles will need to park on street).
The house is situated high up in Camps Bay, closer to the Twelve Apostles than the beach, which means two things: uninterrupted ocean and mountain views but also peace and quiet from the sunset strip at the beachfront. There’s conveniently a MyCiti Bus stop almost at the end of the road on Geneva Drive which connects either to central Cape Town or the beach and restaurants, cafés and bars of Camps Bay. Or if you are a walker it is a 15 minute downhill walk.
Mobility: Boutique 10 has many stairs even from the parking area into the house. Ground floor rooms are on the same level as the lounge, kitchen and dining area. There are around 15 steps to the more private upstairs rooms making them difficult to access if you have mobility issues.
Sustainability: They have solar energy geysers to heat the water and solar panels for electricity. Water tanks with ground water are used to water the garden and fill the pool. They grow herbs that are used to supplement breakfast flavours.
Children: They don’t accept children. Adult only over 21 years of age.
