Eziko

traditional african dishes

Description

Eziko Restaurant is challenging stereotypes about job creation, traditional food and township dining experiences one plate at a time. What started as a cooking school, established by Langa resident and former high school teacher Victor Mguqulwa, has blossomed into a reputable eatery that both locals and visitors can enjoy. This unassuming eatery, which also doubles as a conference centre should you wish to host an event, has had countless culinary students pass through it on their road to success. Ntlalo Jordan, owner and executive chef of Jordan Ways of Cooking, is one such example. Even though the culinary school has since closed, the 80-seater restaurant continues to nurture hospitality professionals while curating diner-specific menus.
Braai meat, chakalaka, pap, imifuno (traditional spinach and grain dish), umleqwa (runaway chicken) and other dishes are expertly prepared and elegantly served on white table clothes with antique silverware – proving that traditional African cuisine can compete with French fare, Italian food and the like.
