Harbour House Kalk Bay

Harbour House in Kalk Bay is a popular seafood restaurant offering stunning views of the ocean. Locations don’t really come better than this; perched on the first floor of a building that feels like an extension of the harbour wall itself, the original Harbour House offers excellent seafood with starched white table linen and endless views of the ocean and harbour – the sea literally leaps up to kiss the windows as you dine. Beyond the ocean views, the mountains beckon beyond.

You’ll find perhaps predictably and ocean-inspired menu but the inventiveness of the dishes is way above what you’d expect for a tiny town seafront establishment. We’d really recommend the sole Florentine (an ‘old’ dish reimagined here with panache) but don’t ignore the wine list which has a cornucopia of local MCC (sparkling wine) which goes down particularly well in this location!

Harbour House is these days not the family-owned place it once was: with success have come branches at the V&A Waterfront and Constantia, so the service is not as personal and intimate as it could be. However, we do think that overall what has been reinvested into what is now a 40-year-old idea really shines through in the quality of food, ambiance and attention to detail.
