Hugging the base of the eastern slopes of Table Mountain, and just around the corner from Kirstenbosch itself, Newlands is a plantation that has become a recreational forest – the fire-fighting unit replete with helicopters and trucks is housed here and the forest itself has a lovely mix of wide open track, footpaths softened by pine needles and deep boulder-strewn streams
