Reubens

Reubens is one of those rare places that manages to be chic and sophisticated without being pretentious and aloof – started by Reuben Riffel who has since become one of South Africa’s best-known and best-loved food celebrities, there has always been from inception a strong philanthropic element to Reuben’s offering. It’s perhaps because of this that he’s gone from strength to strength opening only one other restaurant in the country, keeping a very close eye on quality and equality every step of the way.

Reuben’s own story is fascinating: starting from very humble beginnings in a Winelands village he only got into cooking because whilst working as a barman, the kitchen porter didn’t turn up two nights a row and he got told to chop veg instead! And so a star was born…
